About Cartier C Décor Glasses

C Décor is the Cartier line with a C on each temple. Cartier's own site lists it as Décor C de Cartier, a collection that shows off the brand's initial, and describes frames in it as rimless metal with a smooth golden finish. Every C Décor frame here is rimless: there is no rim around the lens, so each lens is drilled and held at the bridge and at the hinge, and the C sits where the temple meets the lens. Every frame here has Gold in the colour name Cartier gives it and a gold-finish metal front. The temples are where they differ. Some are metal with acetate tips. Some carry black buffalo horn, laminated red wood, or two-tone wood in burgundy and natural, the frames collectors call Buffs and Woods, which are also listed under Cartier horn and wood glasses. Others have full acetate temples, in marbled white or in black.

There are optical frames and sunglasses. The optical frames arrive with demo lenses fitted; your optician drills the prescription lenses to match them. How do I tell a C Décor frame from Cartier's other lines?

By the motif at the temple. A C Décor frame has a C where the temple meets the lens. A Santos de Cartier frame carries the screw motif of the Santos watch instead; a Panthère de Cartier frame carries the panther; a Double C de Cartier frame carries the interlocked double C. The listing for each frame names its line, and the model code printed inside the temple, CT followed by four digits and an O for optical or S for sun, identifies the exact model.

What sizes do the C Décor frames come in?

Wide, mostly. The eye sizes here run from 51mm to 58mm, with bridges of 16mm to 19mm and temples of 135mm to 145mm, and each listing gives the width across the front. The optical frames sit at the smaller end, from 51mm to 56mm; the sunglasses run from 56mm to 58mm. Can C Décor frames take my prescription?

Usually, and the optician decides. The frames are rimless, so the lenses are drilled and fixed at the bridge and the hinges; the edge of each lens is on show, and a strong prescription may need a thinner, higher-index material. Not every optician drills lenses, so ask first. The optical frames arrive with demo lenses that give the optician the outline and hole positions to copy. The sunglasses arrive with Cartier's own tinted lenses, which are not prescription; whether a sunglass can take prescription sun lenses is also the optician's call.
