About Oscar Mamooi
Seven Oscar Mamooi frames are online. Oscar Mamooi is an Italian label run from Mestre, on the Venice mainland. Its frames are cut from Italian acetate into jagged, faceted fronts, with bold colour and translucent blocks; the edges are cut like crystal, which gives the fronts their sculptural form. Six of the seven are acetate. The seventh, the Paradisia in Red, pairs a thin titanium front with acetate brows, bringing a lighter metal line into the brand’s language.
The colours are blocked rather than blended. Brown / Purple / Peach and Brown / Yellow / Clear set three plates against each other; Crystal / Burgundy runs clear into wine; Milky White, Lilac, Black and Red are single blocks. Because acetate is cut from a solid plate, each colour is the same through the whole depth of a facet, and an optician can warm the frame to adjust it.
Six cat-eyes and a square
The faceted front lends itself to the upswept corner, so six of the seven are cat-eyes: the Joga, two Innocence, the Volta, the Immature and the Paradisia. The Bachelorette in Crystal / Burgundy is the one square. Eye sizes run from 48mm to 54mm with a median of 50mm; six sit between 47mm and 52mm and the Paradisia is 54mm.

Why do Oscar Mamooi frames look faceted?
Because they are cut that way. The fronts are milled from acetate into jagged, faceted edges, like a cut stone, which is what gives them their sculptural form, and the brand blocks clear and saturated acetate against each other across the frame. Acetate is cut from a solid plate, so each facet shows the same colour through its whole depth.
Are Oscar Mamooi frames acetate or metal?
Six of the seven here are acetate throughout. The Paradisia is the exception: it pairs a thin titanium front with acetate brows, so the metal draws the lens line and the acetate carries the colour above it. Titanium is light and rigid, which keeps that front thin. The listing for each frame states its material.
Can I get prescription lenses in Oscar Mamooi frames?
Yes. Each frame ships as a frame, and your own optician cuts the lenses to the faceted outline, which they will trace from the frame itself.
