About J.F. Rey

Twenty-one J.F. Rey frames are online. The brand was founded in Marseille in 1995 by Jean-François Rey and Joëlle Rey, and remains an independent eyewear brand for optical frames and sunglasses, run by its founders with Joëlle as artistic director. The collections are known for graphic shapes and strong colour, designed by the founders themselves rather than by a large group.

Every one of the 21 is a two-tone. The names read like a paint chart: Green / Purple, Purple Tortoise / Green, Tortoise / Azure Blue, Tortoise / Fuchsia, Pink / Leopard, Black Pixel / Red, Green Textile / Orange, Gradient Blue / Green. Ten frames are acetate, cut from a solid plate so both colours run through; six are metal, with the colour as a finish; and five combine the two, which is how the brand gets a textile or a pixel pattern next to a plain metal rim.

Shapes and sizes

Round leads with seven frames, then geometric with five, square and cat-eye with four each, and one oval. Eye sizes run from 45mm to 54mm with a median of 51mm: three are 46mm or under, 13 sit between 47mm and 52mm, and five are 53mm or more. Named models like Virginia, Charlotte and Madison sit beside numbered ones like JF3007 and JF2995, and several appear here in two colourways.

We do not have a verified statement of where J.F. Rey frames are made, so the brand is on none of our origin pages. Most frames are one of a kind. Each ships as a frame, free and insured within the US with a signature on delivery, for your own optician to glaze.

Where are J.F. Rey glasses made?

J.F. Rey is designed in Marseille, where it was founded in 1995, and remains independent. We do not have a confirmed statement from the brand on where its frames are manufactured, so we do not put it on a Made in France page and we will not guess. Ask us about a specific frame and we will tell you what we can verify.

Is J.F. Rey an independent brand?

Yes. It was founded in Marseille in 1995 by Jean-François Rey and Joëlle Rey and is still run by its founders, with Joëlle as artistic director, rather than by a large eyewear group. That independence is why the collections look the way they do: graphic shapes and strong colour, chosen by the people whose name is on the frame.

What are J.F. Rey frames made of?

Of the 21 here, ten are acetate, six are metal and five combine the two. Acetate is cut from a solid plate, so a two-tone like Purple Tortoise / Green runs through the whole rim; metal keeps the rim thin, with the colour as a finish; and the combination frames put a patterned acetate, such as Pink / Leopard or Green Textile, against a plain metal part.

Can I get prescription lenses in J.F. Rey frames?

Yes. Each frame ships as a frame for your own optician to glaze. The acetate and combination models hide a thicker lens edge better than the six thin metal ones, so with a strong prescription your optician may steer you towards those. Our lens guide at /collections/lens-guide explains lens materials and coatings. If you are near a shop, the Eye Rx practice can fit and adjust.
