About Gamine

Seven Gamine frames are online. Gamine was started in New York in 2016 by the artist Sergei Zubkouski, after a friend dared him to design a pair of sunglasses, and he brought an art and architecture sensibility to eyewear rather than an industry one. The frames are gender-neutral, with clean lines and geometric shapes, and are handcrafted in Italy in materials including Mazzucchelli acetate.

Three of the seven are acetate, two are metal and two combine the two. The names are places: Shinjuku, Trastevere, Wynwood, Tulum, Sodermalm, Nakazakicho, Persta. The colours are restrained, with gold on three of them: Glossy Gold on the Sodermalm, Gold / Silver on the Persta, Gold / Pink on the Tulum, then Dark Blue, Black, Horn Pattern and Porto / Crystal Brown. Metal keeps the gold rims thin; the acetate ones are cut from a solid plate, so the horn pattern runs through.

Small rounds

Four of the seven are round, two are geometric and one is oval. They are small: eye sizes run from 41mm to 49mm with a median of 46mm, and four of the seven are 46mm or under, the two 41mm rounds, the Shinjuku and the Persta, among the smallest metal frames in the store. Nothing reaches 50mm, which puts more than half of Gamine on our narrow frames page.

Where are Gamine glasses made?
