About Res/Rei

Nineteen Res/Rei frames are online, and all of them are acetate. Res Rei was founded in 2011 by Olivero Zanon, based in Treviso just outside Venice, and developed with the Italian designer Umberto Mischi. The name is Latin for the thing: an object with substance and form, and an idea. The collections draw on Italian history, art, sculpture and music, and all production stays in Italy with local manufacturers.

What sets the range apart is pattern and colour in combination. Nine of the 19 carry tortoise or havana in the name, and almost never alone: Dark Havana / Purple / Red, Green / Brown Havana, Red-Purple / Blue-Brown Havana, Pink / Brown Havana, Light Grey / Brown Havana, Gradient Havana. The rest are Red on two frames, Pink / Black and Blue / Green on two each, Burgundy, Pink, Grey / Purple and Gradient Grey-Pink. Because acetate is cut from a solid plate, each of those colours runs through the rim rather than sitting on it.

Shapes and sizes

Cat-eye is the most common shape, with six frames, then square and round with four each, geometric with three, and one oval and one rectangle. The models carry names rather than numbers: Botanic, Begonia, Lily, Hella, Pyramid, Flare, Eton, Glow, Vivo, Loop, Maestro, Nocturne, Lush. Eye sizes run from 47mm to 54mm with a median of 51mm; 13 sit between 47mm and 52mm and six are 53mm or more. Nothing is under 47mm.

Most Res/Rei frames here are one of a kind, and a Botanic in Dark Havana / Purple / Red that sells is not replaced. The frame arrives without lenses, for your own optician to glaze, with free insured shipping inside the US and a signature taken on delivery.

Where are Res Rei glasses made?

In Italy. Res Rei is based in Treviso, just outside Venice, and all production stays in Italy with local manufacturers. That is why all 19 Res/Rei frames online are on our Made in Italy page. The brand was founded in 2011 by Olivero Zanon and developed with the Italian designer Umberto Mischi.

What does Res Rei mean?

It is Latin for the thing: an object with substance and form, and also an idea. The brand chose it to say that a frame is both. The collections draw on Italian history, art, sculpture and music, which shows in model names like Botanic, Pyramid, Maestro and Nocturne, and in colour combinations such as Dark Havana / Purple / Red that few other brands attempt.

Are Res Rei frames acetate?

All 19 here are. Acetate is cut from a solid plate, so a Res/Rei pattern such as Green / Brown Havana or Gradient Grey-Pink runs through the entire rim and is the same at the temple as at the lens. It also means an optician can warm the frame and adjust the bridge and temples to your face. There are no metal Res/Rei frames online at the moment.

Can I get prescription lenses in Res Rei frames?

Yes. Each frame ships as a frame for your own optician to glaze, and a full acetate rim of this depth hides a thicker lens edge well. Sizes run from 47mm to 54mm across the eye, the first number inside the left arm.
