About Aviator Frames

Twelve aviator frames are online from five brands: five from KUBORAUM, two each from Henau, DITA and Blake Kuwahara, and one from Cartier. Unusually for the shape, nine are acetate; only two are metal and one combines the two. The teardrop lens and double bridge are still there, drawn in a thick plate rather than wire.

Every one of the twelve is wide. Eye sizes run from 53mm to 62mm with a median of 53mm, which puts the whole page inside the wide frames collection. If your current glasses read 50mm or less inside the left arm, an aviator will sit broader on your face than what you are used to; that is the point of the shape, but check the temple length too. Twelve frames, twelve colours

No two aviators here share a colour. There is a Blue, a Magenta, a White and an Off-White, a Grey Marble and a Midnight, a plain Tortoise and a Black and Tortoise, a Yellow Havana, and a Gold / Grey from Cartier. DITA’s two, made in Japan, are Antique Silver / White Gold and Yellow Gold / Crystal Pine. An acetate aviator is cut from a solid plate, so the colour runs through the brow and the bridge alike, and an optician can adjust it.

All twelve are one of a kind. Each ships as a frame, free and insured within the US with a signature on delivery, for your own optician to glaze; if the width is wrong on the face, returns are accepted within seven days of delivery, less a 15 percent restocking charge.

Can aviator frames be used for prescription glasses?

Yes. Every aviator here ships as a frame for your own optician to glaze. The teardrop lens is deep, so it takes progressive lenses well, but it is also wide, which suits mild to moderate prescriptions better than very strong ones. Who do aviator glasses suit?

The shape is usually suggested for oval, square and heart-shaped faces, where the wide top and narrow bottom balance the proportions. Because all twelve of ours measure 53mm or more across the eye, they need a broader face or a deliberate oversized look. Compare the eye size with the number inside your current left arm before ordering.

Are aviator glasses always metal?

Not here. Nine of our twelve aviators are acetate, from KUBORAUM, Henau and Blake Kuwahara, with two metal frames, one from DITA and one from Cartier, and one that combines the two. Acetate is cut from a solid plate, so the colour runs right through the brow bar, and it holds an optician’s adjustment. A metal aviator keeps the rim thinner and lighter.

How big are aviator frames?

Large. Ours run from 53mm to 62mm across the eye, with a median of 53mm; the eye size is the first of the three numbers printed inside the left arm. Most people wear glasses between 47mm and 52mm, so an aviator will sit wider.
