About Rectangular Frames

There are 43 rectangular frames online, and Cartier accounts for 17 of them. Oliver Peoples, OVVO and KUBORAUM each contribute five, Sabine Be four, Blake Kuwahara three, Traction Productions two, and Blackfin and Res/Rei one apiece. It is the one shape where metal outnumbers acetate: 23 metal frames against 18 acetate and two combination frames.

Rectangles are the widest frames in the store. Eye sizes start at 47mm and reach 64mm, with a median of 54mm, and 29 of the 43 measure 53mm or more. None is 46mm or under. Gold, black and the thin rim

Gold leads the colours, with five frames named simply Gold and three in Gold / Black, then silver, black shine and black matt. A metal rim stays thin, which suits a rectangle: the lens does the work and the frame is a line around it. OVVO’s rectangles are cut from a surgical steel and titanium composite with a screwless hinge. The acetate rectangles, from Oliver Peoples and Sabine Be among others, are cut from a solid plate, so colours like Morado Tortoise and Navy Stripe run all the way through.

Because most of these frames are one of a kind, a 56mm gold rectangle that sells is not replaced with another. Each ships as a frame, insured and free within the US with a signature on delivery, for your own optician to glaze.

Are rectangular glasses in style?

They never really left. A thin metal rectangle is the shape half of Cartier’s frames here take, and Oliver Peoples and OVVO both build on it. What face shape suits rectangular frames?

Rectangles are usually suggested for rounder or fuller faces because the horizontal line adds structure, and for taller faces where a shallow lens keeps proportions in check. Width matters more than theory: our rectangular frames run from 47mm to 64mm across the eye, with 29 of 43 at 53mm or more, so they suit broader faces best. Ask us if you are between sizes.

Can rectangular frames take progressive lenses?

Usually, but it depends on the lens height. A shallow rectangle leaves less room for the reading zone, so your optician will measure the frame against your prescription and may recommend a short-corridor progressive. How do I know what size rectangular frame to buy?

Take the glasses you wear now and read the three numbers inside the left arm: eye, bridge and temple. Compare them with the listing; the eye size is the width of one lens, and the bridge is the gap between them. Rectangles here have a median eye size of 54mm.
